This 22 km circuit between Cantin and Aubigny-au-Bac gives you an introduction to the neighbouring villages, the Grand Mont Semaphore and the history of the area told through the various information displays you will encounter.

The Grand Mont Semaphore
At the top of the Grand Mont in Bugnicourt is a strange 9-metre-high machine, the Semaphore, which starts to move as soon as it rains!
There are also orientation displays that, on a clear day, allow visitors to see and appreciate the diversity and evolution of the landscape from Arleusis to Douai and beyond.


The Cantin Lake
This former chalk quarry, which descends up to 20 metres below the water table, used to supply a local cement factory. When quarrying operations ceased, the water levels rose and filled the gaping hole to form a lake.
The site is now a nature reserve that can only be visited during nature events organised by Douaisis Agglo, or by request for groups (further information on 03 27 99 14 13). The 620-metre footpath that crosses the site has been officially recognised for its disabled access, allowing visitors in wheelchairs to fully enjoy the site.
On the edge of the lake, a hide allows visitors to observe the many species of birds that frequent the nature reserve.
The site is managed by the Douaisis Agglo and, through a partnership with a local breeder, the animal grazing areas help to maintain the open natural environments.
