Standing stones, Megalith
in Féchain
-
In 1968, when work was being carried out widening the Sensée canal, a surprising stone was unearthed. Measuring 4m² by 2m² and weighing more than 7 tonnes, it is an ancient sharpening stone. The largest in the region, 4000 years ago men used it to sharpen their weapons and polish their flint tools. Unfortunately, when the decision was made to remove the stone from the ground, the Neolithic monument did not survive intact and broke.
