Every form of life, existing or ever-present, owes it a debt: without it, no life would be possible. Its energy also governs the Earth's climate. Throughout the seasons, the Sun's apparent and ever-changing path across the sky sets the rhythm of our lives. It is the Sun that gave humankind the ability to measure time for countless past civilizations. By transforming its constituent matter through thermonuclear fusion, the Sun sheds more than 4 million tons every second, which are converted into energy.
