In Greek mythology, Selene is the goddess of the Moon. And yet, since 1994, she has been sited facing the rising sun in the middle of the fountains of the Place d'Armes. This statue is the work of Norbert Tréca, a Douai artist who specialises in the female nude. Many visitors to Douai imitate her arm aloft pose or take a photo of themselves next to her with the belfry in the background.
